WAXAHACHIE, Texas (Sept. 01, 2026) — Nelson University hosted its annual Spiritual Saturation Week from Aug. 26–28, welcoming respected ministry leaders from across the Assemblies of God fellowship.

Spiritual Saturation Week is one of the first experiences students encounter each semester. This campuswide emphasis on worship, prayer and spiritual formation helps students build a strong spiritual foundation for the months ahead. Rooted in Nelson University’s mission, the week reinforces the values of faith, community, service and calling while inviting students to grow together in Christ-centered community.

District Youth Director for the North Texas Assemblies of God Spencer Speed said, “I think one of the best parts about Spiritual Saturation Week is that it starts the year off strong and helps create a good rhythm to grow with Christ and to grow together with one another.”

As 353 first‑time freshmen arrive on campus, they step into a tradition that highlights one of Nelson University’s defining strengths: intentional opportunities to grow spiritually while advancing academically.

This semester’s guest speakers included:

• Heath Corrales, Oklahoma District Youth Director
• Ben Andrews, Arkansas District Youth Director
• Brooks Till, Tennessee District Youth Director
• Charlie Allo, Louisiana District Youth Director
• Nick Rogers, West Texas District Youth Director

These leaders spend their careers investing in the next generation, helping students navigate questions of faith, leadership, purpose, and calling. Their presence reinforces a core aspect of the Nelson experience: learning from ministry leaders who are actively shaping churches and communities across the nation.

Students, staff and faculty participated in chapel services during the day and worship gatherings each evening. Rather than treating faith as an activity that fits around a schedule, Spiritual Saturation Week demonstrates how faith is the foundation for everything else.

The goal is not simply academic success. The goal is helping students discover who God has called them to become.

Students begin the semester with:

• A stronger sense of purpose
• Meaningful connections with fellow students
• Healthy spiritual habits
• Encouragement from experienced ministry leaders
• Greater confidence in their calling and future direction

The result is an educational experience designed to help students graduate prepared for both career success and Kingdom impact. 

Ricky Hernandez, South Central Hispanic District youth director, is grateful for the work God is doing through Nelson. “What I love about Spiritual Saturation Week is that it really sets the tone for the entire school year,” Hernandez said.
