Nelson University Hosts Historic First Home Meet at 2026 Nelson Invitational
Waxahachie, TX (March 25, 2026) — Nelson University Track & Field made history this weekend, hosting its first-ever home meet at the Lions Athletic Complex with the 2026 Nelson Invitational. The event welcomed programs from across the region and delivered a full day of high-level competition and standout performances.
Field events opened the day before an energetic transition to track events in the afternoon, creating a competitive atmosphere throughout.
Leading the way was Latrel Davis, who delivered a record-breaking performance in the long jump, reaching 7.05 meters to set a new program record. He added a second victory in the high jump (1.92m), completing a standout two-event performance that earned Sooner Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors.
The Lions showed strong depth in the field events. Ishmeal Ealoms placed first in the discus and second in the hammer throw, while Brandon Clark won the triple jump and finished second in the long jump. Jaxon Salzman secured first-place finishes in both the pole vault and javelin. On the women’s side, Jaylyn Kechter recorded multiple top finishes in the throws.
On the track, Leanna Jackson claimed first in the women’s 200 meters, while Hagen Darney and Hunter Morgan led the men’s 100 meters with strong finishes. Robyn Puente added a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles after placing second in the 100-meter hurdles.
In distance events, Jesus Flores led a sweep of the men’s 10,000 meters, with teammates finishing second and third. The group continued its success in the 1500 meters, while the women’s distance runners added key performances.
The meet concluded with a first-place finish in the women’s 4×400 relay, providing a strong close to a historic day.
The 2026 Nelson Invitational marked a major milestone for Nelson Track & Field. In its first home meet, the program demonstrated depth, momentum, and the ability to compete at a high level—setting a strong foundation for the future.
