Q. Tell us a little bit about yourselves.

McKenzie Schulze, most people know her as Kenzie, is originally from Little River Academy, Texas and is a proud alumna of Nelson University. She graduated in December 2024 with a degree in Education. During her time at Nelson, Kenzie was a dedicated student-athlete on the women’s softball team, helping lead the team to a NCCAA National Championship. She was also recognized as a three-time All-Conference honoree.

Today, Kenzie serves as the Guest Experience Manager at Lakeview Camp and Retreat, where she brings her joyful spirit and positive leadership creating welcoming and meaningful experiences for guests.

Q. How did your time at Nelson influence/ prepare you for what you are both doing now?

During her time at Nelson, Kenzie grew a deeper connection of what it looks like to follow Jesus in practical, everyday ways. While with Blue Crew, Lakeview’s summer work program for Nelson students, she discovered that living out her faith could be both meaningful and fun. Seeing the impact camp had on the lives of others ultimately sparked a change in her faith and her calling.

Q: How did each of you know you wanted to be in your current field?

Kenzie hadn’t given much thought to her summer job at Lakeview Camp at first. However, after spending a semester teaching full time, she couldn’t shake the joy and fulfillment she experienced while working at camp. Since May 2025, Kenzie has hit the ground running, leading guest services, managing a team of hosts, overseeing logistics, and helping to create memorable experiences for churches, ministries, schools, and other organizations all year round.

Q: Tell us a little about your respective roles in your current career/ ministry.

As Guest Experience Manager, Kenzie thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced role that keeps her on her feet and connected to people. No two days look the same, and she finds joy in actively serving the wide variety of guests who walk through Lakeview’s doors each day.

Q: Tell us about a memorable/funny moment in your respective career/ministry.

If you have been following @lakeviewcamp on Instagram, then you’ve probably seen the fish. This summer, Kenzie became known for posing with this catch. Beyond the fun photos, being at the lake is one of Kenzie’s biggest responsibilities during the summer months. She oversees a team of 25 lifeguards, ensuring the safety of campers and guests under the Texas sun.

Q: How has Nelson left an impact on your life?

Nelson gave Kenzie the space to deepen her relationship with Jesus and create friendships with others who share her faith. She is grateful for the ways Nelson shaped her not only as an athlete, but as a student, and Jesus follower.

Q. What would you tell a current Nelson student today?

“You might find yourself in a place of work you didn’t expect. That’s okay! God knew me, my talents, my abilities, and placed me in a space where I could grow into leadership and thrive in the things that bring me joy.”
