Donor Scholarships

Current Nelson University students may apply for Donor Scholarships annually in their myNelson Student Portal . The Donor Scholarship Application opens in January and is due in early February. Announcements will be made to students through MyNelson email addresses and in chapel once the application is available. For those selected, donor scholarships are awarded at the annual Scholarship Luncheon each April. Scholarships awarded are for the next academic year. Applicants must also complete a FAFSA to determine financial need. Recipients for most Donor Scholarships are selected by the Scholarship Committee, which is composed of faculty and staff chosen from the different areas of the University. These scholarships are given to residential students unless specified otherwise by the donor-defined scholarship criteria.

Aileen I. (Robinson) Bullock: This scholarship was funded by Lyndal Bullock in honor of his late wife, Aileen. They met at Nelson University in the 50s while attending our high school and were married for 60 years.

Anabel Manley Scholarship: This scholarship was created to honor the life and ministry service of the late Anabel Manley.

Andrea McKnight Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is given in memory of Andrea McKnight, who passed away in 2005, the wife of Irby McKnight, previous Nelson University Vice President of Advancement.

Assemblies of God Credit Union Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by the Assemblies of God Credit Union. AGCU is proud to be a part of the campus family, proud to support Nelson University, its students, and all of its programs and does so by way of this annual scholarship.

Barry L. Gordon Business Scholarship Endowment: In recognition of the importance of the Marketplace ministry, Mr. Barry L. Gordon has given this scholarship to students pursuing business degrees.

Basil and Juanita Green Scholarship: This scholarship is given to honor Basil and Juanita Green, long-time friends and supporters of Nelson University.

Bobby J. & Alvena Wilson Scholarship: This scholarship was provided by Bobby Wilson in support of pastoral and church ministries students.

Career Development Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by Nelson University Career Development Office for a student showing excellence in academics, as well as leadership abilities in the marketplace as they are working while pursuing school.

Cecil L. & Charlene Brown Missions Scholarship: This scholarship was given by the estate of the late Cecil and Charlene Brown. Because of their generosity, love, and support for Nelson University, students will continue for generations to come.

Charles & Wanda Ploss: This scholarship is given by the generosity of Jack and Margaret Ploss in support of ministry students.

Charles V. & Norma Davis Alumni Association: An annual scholarship is provided by an endowment from the Nelson University Alumni Association and is awarded based on need and academic achievement.

Chris Miller Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by an endowment from Jodie Miller in memory of her husband, Chris, who was an alumnus of Nelson University and a missionary to Africa. Preference is given to an undergraduate Missions or Education major with financial need.

Christian Fidelity Foundation Scholarships: These scholarships provided by Alletha M. Barnett are designated for two Music majors and two Academic majors.

Clarensau Family Scholarships: The late Ted Clarensau created an endowment to perpetuate the Clarensau family’s name and values, in honor of his father’s sacrifice and commitment.

Culbreth Family Scholarship: This scholarship was created in honor of Cecil and Wanda Culbreth’s personal ministry within the Arkansas District and to train students who share their heart for the church. Preference goes to an on campus Youth Ministry major from the Arkansas District.

Daina Ruth Davis Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible from an endowment in memory of Daina Ruth Davis and also by the West Texas District. It is awarded to a student from West Texas who exhibits academic achievement.

David Bush Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is provided in honor of David Bush and the influence his life had on countless people through his pastoral ministry as well as his career at Nelson University. For years to come, students will benefit financially by the scholarship and be inspired by the life of David Bush.

David W. and Juliana Barnett Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by Rev. and Mrs. Barnett for a married student with children at home.

Donald and Deana Calvin: This scholarship is given to support students pursuing church ministries or theology.

Donna Lynn Brammer Memorial Scholarship: This was made possible by an endowment provided by Mr. and Mrs. Larry A. Brammer of Pasadena, Texas, in memory of their daughter, Donna Lynn Brammer. This scholarship is awarded to students from the South Texas District.

Dr. Edward and Barbara Daniel Scholarship: This scholarship was endowed by Dr. Edward and Barbara Daniel. It was created to provide for music majors actively pursuing excellence through classical piano training. The Daniel family has a long-standing relationship with Nelson University. Honor is due the Daniel family for their creation of and leadership in the Pleasant Hills Children’s Home, previously the Daniel Memorial Children’s Home.

Dr. J. Paul and Mary Savell Scholarship: This scholarship is in memory of former president and first lady Dr. J. Paul and Mary Savell. Under Dr. Savell’s leadership, the University received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to become a full four-year institution.

Dr. James and Winnie Barnes Scholarship: This scholarship is in honor of Dr. James and Winnie Barnes. Dr. Barnes came to the University in 1974 as the Dean of Students. He has served in various capacities under six presidents of Nelson University. The student center, dedicated in 2002, is named in his honor. The scholarship was set up to help offset tuition expenses for Education majors.

Dr. James K. and Joyce Bridges Scholarship: These scholarships were created by the Bridges on behalf of their alma mater to invest in deserving students. Dr. Bridges was a champion for the University and served as Chairman of the Board. Joyce founded a ministry which brought multiple church teams on campus annually to pray for the University and she remains a loyal supporter. Bridges Residence Hall is named in their honor.

Dr. John & Pastor Leora Wagliardo Scholarship: This scholarship was given by the late Dr. John Wagliardo and his wife Pastor Leora Wagliardo as an extension of their support for Nelson and its fine students.

Dr. Kermit & Mrs. Jan Bridges Presidential Scholarship: This scholarship is given to honor the leadership of President Kermit and Jan Bridges to our beloved university. We recognize their many years of service and love to Nelson University.

Dr. Mary Jackson Doctoral Degree Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to support students enrolled in Nelson University’s doctoral program.

Dr. Robert & Elizabeth Harden: This scholarship is given by the Harden family in their ongoing support of students at Nelson’s Graduate School.

Dr. Robert R. Bayless Scholarship: This scholarship is available to ministerial students who have made a lifetime alumnus. commitment to full-time ministry and maintain satisfactory grades. Dr. Robert Bayless is a 1947 alum.

Dr. Thomas F. and Louise K. Harrison Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by an endowment provided by Dr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Harrison, who dedicated many years of their lives as professors at Nelson University. A scholarship is awarded annually to a Church Ministries major.

Earl and Joyce Banning Endowed Scholarship: This scholarship is in honor of Earl and Joyce Banning. Preference is given to a student from Braeswood Assembly of God, pursuing a degree in Church Ministries and exhibiting academic achievement.

Earl G. and Roena Vanzant Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by family and friends of the Vanzants. Preference is given to a student from New Mexico.

Earl L. Ayres Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was created to honor the memory of Earl L. Ayres. It is awarded to a Church Ministries major.

Edward and Isabelle Haupt Scholarship: This scholarship was established to honor the lives and ministries of Edward and Isabelle Haupt, as well as to train missionaries in the field.

Elaine Godwin Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by an endowment established to honor the memory of Elaine Godwin, a longtime resident of Oklahoma.

Eleanor R. Guynes Scholarship: This scholarship was created by Delmer and Eleanor Guynes and is awarded to a student who exhibits academic achievement, demonstrates a high level of morals, and potential leadership abilities.

Elmer D. & Dorothy L. Polk: This scholarship was created by Leonard and Pamela Polk to honor the long-held love and support of of Elmer and Dorothy Polk for Nelson University.

Fannie Brown Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is in memory of alumna Fannie Brown. Preference goes to a student showing academic excellence and financial need.

Frank Lane Memorial Scholarship: These scholarships are provided by Helen Lane in memory of Frank Lane.

Freedom Church/Kendall & Starla Bridges Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by generosity of Freedom Church and the Bridges Family.

George and Anna Brazell Scholarship: This scholarship is provided from an endowment fund honoring the Brazells for their many years of dedicated work as Dr. Brazell served as the Vice President of Development and Mrs. Brazell taught. It is awarded to a student with high academic achievement, financial need and bearing evidence of high spiritual standing.

George and Jessie Kappaz Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by an endowment from George and Jessie Kappaz. It is awarded to a graduate student who is enrolled for at least six hours and has exhibited high academic achievement.

Grace Community Church Scholarship: This is scholarship was made possible by the generosity of the congregation at Grace Community Assembly of God in Flower Mound, TX.

Gregory Paul Neill Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was created by the Neill family to honor the memory of Gregory Paul Neill. The Neill family’s heart is to make provision for students who actively portray Christ’s love through Christian Education.

Guy Shields Scholarship: This scholarship was created to honor Guy Shields, the founder of Shield of Faith Bible Institute.

H.A. Brummett Scholarship: H.A. Brummett was the President of Nelson from 1978 to 1982. This scholarship was created to honor his tremendous contribution of leadership to the University.

H.C. and Dorothy Noah Scholarship: This scholarship was created to honor the memory of H.C. and Dorothy Noah. The scholarship is awarded to female athletes pursuing an Education degree.

Harding Regents Scholarship: The scholarship is made possible by a grant from Robert and Shawnee Griffith Harding of Waxahachie, Texas. The scholarship will annually provide for an outstanding Ellis County (Texas) student attending Nelson University as a freshman. The scholarship is awarded based on high academic achievement.

Harold and Mary Maxine Gookin Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by Harold and Mary Gookin. Harold was an ordained AG minister. He ministered in a county jail for thirty years. Mary graduated and received a license to preach from Raymond T. Richey, one of the three founders of the University. It is awarded to a student who exhibits academic achievement.

Heather Francis Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was created by Jeff Francis to honor the memory of his wife, Heather Francis, who served as Nelson University’s registrar for many years and loved students very much. The scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student with financial need.

Herman L. Grammar Family Scholarship: This scholarship is provided in memory of Herman, Marcella, and son Erich Grammer, of Pasadena, TX.

Hills Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by the contributions to the Hills Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Hugh P. & Gertrude Jeter Missions: This scholarship is made possible through the contributors to the Hugh P. Jeter Missions Endowment Fund to honor the Kingdom service of Hugh P. & Gertrude Jeter.

Jack & Maragret Ploss: This scholarship is given by the generous endowment established by Jack and Margaret Ploss.

Jack Jr. & Patsy DeBartolo: This scholarship is awarded annually by one of our Foundation Board members, Jack Jr. and his wife, Patsy DeBartolo, on behalf of their high school alma mater, where they met.

Jamie Norton Lund Scholarship: This scholarship is in memory of Jamie Norton Lund who was pivotal in the building of the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Nelson University. Her ability to see education as an open door for sharing the gospel in other countries has broadened the scope of missions for the students of the university. It is awarded to students who share this vision.

Jerrold & Cheryl Young Scholarship: This scholarship is for students who have a heart for music ministry, children’s ministry, or a missionary calling. The Bible says we are to give as we are able. We pray this is a perpetual blessing for the students of Nelson.

Jerry Wayne Shepperd and Bruce Laron Shepperd Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is given to honor the memory of Jerry Wayne Shepperd and Bruce Laron Shepperd.

Jill Dodd Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by an endowment given in memory of alumna Jill Dodd. The scholarship is awarded to an on campus Education major.

Joan G. Butler Legacy Scholarship: This scholarship is given to honor the memory and legacy of Joan Butler, a constant friend and supporter of Nelson University. Joan served on staff in a variety of roles for 16 years, and she was a member of the Board of Regents. Through this scholarship, she will continue to impact the generations to come through Nelson University.

John & Myrna Wyckoff Scholarship: The Wyckoff’s long-standing support and love for our university are exemplified by their generous provision of this scholarship, which will positively impact the lives of our students.

John C. & Dr. Mary L. Campbell Scholarship: This scholarship was given to help financially support students and honor their accomplishments in education. This scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Mary Campbell.

John F. & Mary A. Foster Education Scholarship: This scholarship was made possible by John Frank & Mary Aileen Foster, large supporters of our Nelson Foundation.

K. LaVerne Holmes and Dr. Edwin L. Holmes Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded with a heart for the students and the mission of Nelson University.

Karla Aaron Scholarship: This scholarship is provided through the Paul and Karla Aaron Endowment at Nelson University, and its purpose is to carry Karla’s legacy forward by inspiring students to lift up the name of Jesus through their calling and service to children.

Kirkwood Pioneer Fund: This scholarship is given to honor the spirit of pioneering in ministry held by the Kirkwoods.

Klaude and Mable Kendrick Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by Klaude and Mable Kendrick. Nelson University honors their memory for their leadership and love, especially as former president and first lady of the University.

L.W. Diesman and Dorothy Rook Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by an endowment given in memory of Mr. Diesman and his sister, Dorothy Rook. It is awarded to students with strong and well-defined ministerial goals, leadership potential, and who must maintain a 3.0 GPA, with preference given to students directly involved in missions.

LaVerna Stafford Dudley Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible from an endowment provided by the family of LaVerna Stafford Dudley. Interest from the endowment is awarded annually to a graduating ministerial student actively involved in ministry.

Loretta Jane and John Wayne Wyckoff Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by an endowment provided by John and Judy (Wyckoff) Crozier and Dr. John and Myrna Wyckoff.

Luther and Juanita Dulaney Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by an endowment. Preference is given to students from Magnolia Assembly of God church in Port Neches or from the South Texas District.

Luther O. & Betty J. Foster: This scholarship is provided by long-time friends of Nelson, Luther O. and Betty J. Foster.

M. E. Collins Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible from an endowment provided by family and friends of former University president M. E. Collins. The scholarship is awarded based on need and academic achievement.

Marcus Brooks Pastoral Ministries Endowed Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by an endowment by Mr. and Mrs. Marcus H. Brooks.

Marie (Watkins) Edwards Scholarship: This scholarship is provided in memory of Marie Watkins Edwards, whose love for God and education will live on in the lives of those who will be helped financially as they train to make a difference for good.

McElhannon Internship Stipend: This scholarship is given to support students looking to intern in the areas of politics, journalism, or broadcasting, or in ministering in smaller churches.

Melvin E. Scott Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by the Acott Oil Operations Endowment Fund.

Mike & Becky Dickenson “Called to Serve” Scholarship: This scholarship is given by Mike & Becky Dickenson, in support of New Mexico students who are called to serve in ministry.

Mischelle Lednicky Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is given to honor the memory of Mischelle Lednicky.

North Texas District Council Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by the North Texas District Council and is awarded to a student from North Texas who exhibits academic achievement.

Oklahoma District Council Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students from Oklahoma provided by the Oklahoma District Council of the Assemblies of God.

Oscar and Linnie Roland Honorary Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to support ministry students from small towns. It is given to honor the legacy of Oscar and Linnie Roland by the generosity of the congregation at Northplace Church in Sachse, TX.

Pastor Rennie J. Baker: This scholarship is given to honor the memory of Pastor Rennie J. Baker who pastored First Assembly of God in Waxahachie for 40 years, and served as the first presbyter of the Waxahachie Section for 14 years.

Pauline Wheeler Harden Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible from Dr. Robert and Liz Harden and the Harden family. This scholarship is in memory of Pauline Wheeler Harden, Dr. Harden’s mother, because of her love for Nelson University and its students.

Phipps Family Scholarship: This scholarship was established by former Nelson University Vice President of Student Development, Terry Phipps, and his family.

Pleasant Hills Children’s Home Scholarship: This scholarship is given for students who have previously resided at Pleasant Hills Children’s Home, supporting their pursement of higher Christian education.

Ramona Burk Ashbrook Scholarship: This scholarship was established by John Ashbrook, to honor the memory of his late wife: Ramona Burk Ashbrook, Nelson University Alumna.

Raymond T. Richey Scholarship: This scholarship is in honor of one of our founding members, Raymond T. Richey.

Rebecca Snow Walker & Garland Walker: This scholarship is given by the Garlands, long-time friends and alumni of Nelson University.

Rev. Arthur E. and Elizabeth Galley Wilson Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by an endowment in memory of Arthur and Elizabeth Wilson. Rev. and Mrs. Wilson were veteran missionaries and Mrs. Wilson taught at the University for many years. Applicants must be planning a career in missions.

Rev. E. Wayne Hanks: This scholarship is given in honor of Rev. E. Wayne Hanks.

Rev. Edgar and Sarah Palser Missions Scholarship: This scholarship is given by the congregation at Dallas First Assembly of God in Dallas, TX, to honor the ministry of Rev. Edgar and Sarah Palser.

Rev. E.R. Foster Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was made possible in 1987 by Rev. Robert G. Slaton from donations which came into San Jacinto Assembly of God to honor the memory of Emmitt Ralph Foster, Jr. The scholarship fund has been extended to include E.R. Foster as well. It is awarded to a West Texas District student who exhibits academic achievement.

Rev. J.R. & Verna Mae Apple Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is in honor of Rev. J.R. & Verna Mae Apple.

Richard & Fannie Johnson Missions Scholarship: This scholarship is given to honor the spirit of missions and ministry of Richard and Fannie Johnson

Rick White Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by the generosity of several donors in honor of their pastor, Rick White.

Robert & Brenda Hogan Scholarship: This scholarship is given to honor the Hogan’s legacy and pastoral leadership.

Rose Family Scholarship: This scholarship was given by the Rose Family in support of students pursuing ministry in the field of Digital Media Arts.

Suzanne Gebby Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by Suzanne Gebby, a friend of Nelson University, for missions, education, and graduate students.

Terry Bryan Athletic Scholarship: This scholarship was created to honor the memory of Terry Bryan—outstanding coach and player of the Nelson Lions’ Basketball team.

The Embretson Track & Field and Cross Country Endowed Scholarship: This scholarship is made possible by the generous endowment from the Embretson Family in support of Nelson track & field and cross country athletes.

The Impact-Your-World Evangelism Scholarship: This scholarship is designed for a student majoring in Management, Music Education, or Secondary Education who, upon graduation, plans to devote his or her life to working for God while pursuing a career in Management or Education.

The Impact-Your-World Leadership Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Youth Ministries or Missions who, upon graduation, plans to devote his or her life and career to a leadership role in either Youth/Campus Ministries or Foreign Missions.

The Thomas & Cecyle Kinard Endowed Scholarship for Biblical Languages: This scholarship is given in honor of Thomas and Cecyle Kinard to support students of biblical languages as part of their academic focus at Nelson.

Trout-Berndt Family Endowment Scholarship: This scholarship is given to a student majoring in Missions or Pastoral/Church Ministries

Vance & Mary Hill Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by contributions to the Hill Foundation.

Vic & Naomi Schober Scholarship:

Will and Addalynne Titus Scholarship: This scholarship is named in honor of Will and Addalynne Titus. It is awarded to students pursuing a degree in Church Leadership.

William and Deloris Maupin Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by William and Deloris Maupin. It is awarded to a student majoring in Missions who exhibits academic achievement.

William & Ruth McCann Scholarship: This scholarship is given to honor the memory of William and Ruth McCann.

Women’s Alliance Scholarship: The Women’s Alliance of Nelson University provides an annual scholarship to female education majors for their senior year of study.

Woodlake Church Missions Scholarship: This scholarship was established by the Missions Committee of Woodlake Church in Tulsa, OK.

World Harvest Scholarship: This scholarship is provided by Chad Germany, an Nelson University graduate. It is provided for a Missions major.
