Nelson University Hosted Annual Homecoming Celebration

WAXAHACHIE, Texas (Nov. 4, 2026) – Nelson University hosted its 2026 Homecoming from Oct. 29 through Oct. 31, 2026.

Alumni returned to Waxahachie, Texas, to reconnect with old classmates, visit former professors, and revisit the place they once called home. From the first ping-pong ball tossed during the Texas Snowstorm to the final whistle of Saturday’s football game, Homecoming Weekend brought campus together.

Homecoming festivities began Thursday night inside the Sheaffer Center with one of Nelson’s most memorable traditions: the men’s basketball Texas Snowstorm game. Hundreds of white ping-pong balls flooded the court after the Lions’ first basket. Over 600 alumni, students and families filled the Sheaffer Center to cheer the lions to victory. The game concluded with a 101-72 win over Arlington Baptist.

On Friday, alumni gathered for the Memories Breakfast before joining students, faculty and staff for Homecoming Chapel. The day continued with an Alumni and Students Lunch Party and afternoon dorm tours.

Friday evening brought another round of Lions athletics as Nelson volleyball faced Central Christian before students and alumni headed outdoors for Collinstock Music Festival. The Lady Lions continued their dominant run, taking complete control against the Central Christian Tigers in an impressive 3-0 sweep. Following the win, couches and blankets filled the grass in front of Collins Hall as students and alumni gathered for a night of performances.

Saturday marked the final day of the Homecoming celebration, but it was by no means the least eventful. Saturdays at Nelson: Homecoming Edition invited prospective students from legacy families to tour campus, learn about admissions and experience Homecoming alongside their families. Prospective students were able to learn about and see the places their parents once went to college.

On Saturday afternoon, Lady Lions volleyball returned to action with a commanding 3-0 victory over Langston University ahead of the Lions’ 2 p.m. Homecoming football game. Fans then gathered at Lumpkins Stadium for a Tailgate Carnival featuring food, games and activities for the whole family before kickoff. The Lions built a 20-10 lead in the second half, but Wayland Baptist mounted a late comeback, scoring 35 fourth-quarter points to secure a 45-20 victory. While the result on the field was disappointing, the homecoming weekend remained a great celebration.

As the weekend ended, alumni headed home with new stories to add to the old ones, while current and prospective students caught a glimpse of something bigger than a college experience: a community they can belong to for years to come.
