WAXAHACHIE, Texas — October 2, 2025 — This summer, Nelson’s very own Dr. Espinoza, who is the department chair for Bible and Theology, traveled to Lomé, Togo, where he had the privilege of serving as a guest lecturer at Pan-Africa Theological Seminary (PAThS). Located on the West Africa Advanced School of Theology (WAAST) campus, PAThS offers the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor of Ministry (DMin) degrees in theological studies. Students and leaders from across the continent come to PAThS for their doctoral training.

Faculty at PAThS are regularly invited from around the world to teach doctoral-level courses, with past guest lecturers including Drs. Craig Keener, Robert Menzies, and Byron Klaus. Dr. Espinoza joined their ranks by teaching a research methods course for PAThS’s doctoral programs.

Dr. Espinoza’s connection to PAThS is not new. Since 2018, he has served as a dissertation advisor, guiding doctoral candidates through the research and writing process. His summer trips provide valuable opportunities to reconnect with graduates and colleagues, while also allowing him to bring international experience back into the classroom at Nelson University.

During this visit, he reunited with two former students, Dr. Douti Flindja and Dr. Titus Degoue, both of whom he advised during their doctoral studies. Today, Dr. Flindja serves as Academic Dean at WAAST and pastors the International Chapel, while Dr. Degoue serves as Director of Theological Training in Cameroon and Director of the Bible school in Mbalmayo. Both now also serve on faculty at WAAST.

Reflecting on his time in Togo, Dr. Espinoza shared:
“It is a real joy to spend time overseas and be formed by my experiences there, both for the sake of being part of the international Christian community and also for the ability to bring that experience back to the classroom here at home.”

Nelson University celebrates Dr. Espinoza’s contributions abroad and the ways his service strengthens our mission to prepare leaders for global impact.
