WAXAHACHIE, Texas — August 28, 2025 — After nearly half a century of service to Nelson University, Nell Moore (“Ms. Nell”) is officially stepping into retirement, leaving behind a legacy that has touched generations of students, faculty, and staff.

Nell joined the university family on July 27, 1977, as custodian of the historic Farmers Administration Building. That same year, President Kermit Bridges entered what was then Southwestern Assemblies of God College as a freshman. At the time, the Waxahachie campus was a much smaller community with just a handful of main buildings. Over the years, Ms. Nell faithfully watched the university grow. She saw new facilities rising from the ground, academic programs expanding, and thousands of students walking through its doors.

During her 48 years, Nell worked under five administrations, each season of leadership marking new chapters in the life of Nelson. Through it all, her presence remained steady and true. Her colleagues describe her as the same gentle, faithful, and joyful spirit in her final year as she was on her very first day.

Reflecting on her retirement, President Kermit Bridges shared:

“Nell embodies the very heart of Nelson University. Her service has never been about recognition or applause but about love. Love for this place and the people who call it home. For nearly five decades, she has blessed us with her faithfulness and care. We are better because she was here.”

In many ways, Ms. Nell’s story mirrors Nelson’s own: steady growth, unfolding new chapters, all the while holding to a firm commitment of faith and service. Ms. Nell showed up day in and day out, helping create an environment where others could thrive.

At a reception held in her honor, colleagues filled the room with stories that highlighted her quiet strength, dependability, and even her sense of humor. Many recalled how she often went far beyond her responsibilities – ensuring coffee mugs were clean, safeguarding office belongings, and paying attention to details that made others feel cared for. Her work was never just about maintaining a building; it was about nurturing the people within it.

As she steps into retirement, the Nelson community celebrates not only her long career but also the life of service she lived each day. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her influence will remain woven into the story of Nelson University for years to come.

The Nelson family offers Nell our deepest gratitude, prayers, and blessings as she enters this new season. May her retirement be filled with rest, joy, and the same love she so faithfully shared with all of us.
